Where to buy in Spain
For most buyers the region decides more than the building does. It sets your travel time, whether the place works out of season, what there is to do in the evening, and who else is around. It's also the hardest thing to change later — you can renovate a kitchen, not a location.
Regions we cover
BuildMatch is starting on Spain's southern coast, where the new-build market is deepest and best served by international flights. We'd rather cover a few areas properly than claim the whole country.
Costa del Sol
New-build property along Spain's Costa del Sol, from Málaga and Benalmádena through Fuengirola and Mijas to Marbella and Estepona.
Sotogrande
Low-density, private new-build property around Sotogrande, San Roque and Guadiaro, at the western end of the Costa del Sol.
What to weigh up before you choose
What the property is for
A permanent move, a holiday base you use a few times a year, and a property you intend to let out point at different places. A town that's perfect for six weeks in summer can be closed and quiet in February.
Getting there
For most international buyers this is the constraint that outlasts every other preference. How far is the nearest airport with year-round direct flights from where you live, and how long is the drive at the end of it?
Coast, golf, or town
Walkable to a beach, inside a golf resort, or in a working Spanish town with shops and schools — these are genuinely different daily lives, and they're often twenty minutes apart.
How busy you want it
Some stretches of coast are dense, lively and well served all year. Others are low-density and private, with fewer restaurants open out of season. Neither is better; they suit different people.
Amenities you'd actually use
Healthcare, international schools, a marina, padel and golf, a supermarket you can walk to. Worth listing honestly before you visit, because everything looks convenient on a sunny viewing day.
What gets built there
Regions differ in what developers are building — apartment blocks with shared pools, townhouse rows, gated villa plots. If you have a firm view on property type, that narrows the map quickly.
Still deciding?
You don't have to settle the region first. Search across every region at once with the criteria you're sure about — budget, property type, completion timing — and let the results tell you where those things exist. Our buying guides cover the process itself, and how BuildMatch works explains when an advisor becomes useful.
